¹⁷ who forsakes ^(A)the companion of her youth
    and forgets ^(B)the covenant of her God;

¹⁷ Whoever loves pleasure will be a poor man;
    he who loves wine and oil will not be rich.

^20 (A)Precious treasure and oil are in a wise man's dwelling,
    but a foolish man ^(B)devours it.

²⁰ Be not among ^(A)drunkards^[a]
    or among ^(B)gluttonous eaters of meat,
²¹ for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty,
    and ^(C)slumber will clothe them with rags.

³ He who ^(A)loves wisdom makes his father glad,
    but ^(B)a companion of prostitutes ^(C)squanders his wealth.

^24 (A)One gives ^(B)freely, yet grows all the richer;
    another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.
^25 (C)Whoever brings blessing ^(D)will be enriched,
    and ^(E)one who waters will himself be watered.
^26 (F)The people curse him who holds back grain,
    but ^(G)a blessing is on the head of him who ^(H)sells it.

¹⁶ Whoever oppresses the poor to increase his own wealth,
    or gives to the rich, ^(A)will only come to poverty.

¹⁴ Like ^(A)clouds and wind without rain
    is a man who ^(B)boasts of a gift he does not give.

6 My son, if you have put up ^(A)security for your neighbor,
    have ^(B)given your pledge for a stranger,
² if you are ^(C)snared in the words of your mouth,
    caught in the words of your mouth,
³ then do this, my son, and save yourself,
    for you have come into the hand of your neighbor:
    go, hasten,^[a] and ^(D)plead urgently with your neighbor.
^4 (E)Give your eyes no sleep
    and your eyelids no slumber;
⁵ save yourself like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter,^{[b]
    (F)}like a bird from the hand of the fowler.
